I gotta say that tonights race far exceeded my expectations, both in terms of the quality of racing and the amount that turned up.
Awesome stuff!!

A big welcome to all the new Guys!

I decided to pick the 1275cc Mini as it appeared as though the 1310cc one might be a bit too powerful from early testing, and I thought the slightly slower one might even the field up a bit.
The Cortina and Alfa's ended up being faster than I had expected, but considering the awesome 2 races I don't regret it at all.

Race 1, The poor Mini couldn't quite hold off the Alfas and Cortina and eventually succumbed at the end of the main straight. Brought it home in a respectable 5th I think.

Race 2 barely managed to hold off a Charging Flattop in the Fiat to maintain 5th position, and then began the incredibly close race with 5 of us barely 1 second apart for about 10 laps.
Gwyar went wide and smacked into the wall, handing me 4th, then an accident between Jiminee and Glen handed me 2nd, not bad for a little Mini!

The last 2 laps I'm sure my engine was getting sick as I lost power, but a big gap back to 3rd and 4th and 2nd it was.

Great racing all, and I think I can say on behalf of the admins that We don't care if Your Fast or Slow as long as You show courtesy, so welcome all
New Guys and Oldies, see You next week again hopefully.

Hi Guys
Cadabra here (Red Mini) last night was my first attempt at sim racing.
Firstly thanks for the warm welcome from all, it's a bit daunting first time up at one of these race events, so my plan was to stay out of everyones way, so in Qualifying I posted a 1min 12 sec lap and then parked up in the pits with the intention of starting at the back of the grid and not getting in the real racers way, this was all fine until 3 laps into the race (no mishaps just circulating around in 1min 10 sec roughly) I was thrown out of the race and shown as a DQ, not sure what happened can someone please explain where I went wrong.

Thanks again guys very enjoyable experience and sorry if I caused any problems for anyone.

Dave

ok cool, just checking :D I'm excitied is all :D

Dave'o, its possible you were driving too slow? I had a warning a few days ago for it, so i can only assume you can get DQ for it.
I found that practicing hard for a few days, i got the feel for it for any track and you get a lot more confident. Learn your vehicle and just have a go. All the guys are goodblokes, so if you stuff up, i dont think anyone will be too upset, I wouldn't be anyways.

Well what a great night's racing, 14 on the grid, a good mix in field allowing for all to have some close racing.
You don't have to be first to be a winner here! :bounce: To all who turned up it was FANTASTIC! Welcome to the new members, I sure hope you enjoyed yourselves, I did, so good to see here.

Everyone showed respect, fought hard and cleanly, big congrats to all.
Gotta say it, Glen your efforts and vision are paying off.

Noted so many minis, hence the Coppa, what fun car, you can really push the little beastie, with some good set ups it would hard press a lot of this group on the right track.
Race one, pulled a good start and picked up a couple of places, then with turn on looming, backed off a little and lost the placing I had gained.
I did think I may have stayed in contact for a long while, but there a couple of turns that I have not mastered and soon saw me slipping down the ranks.
Had some dices with Snakeyes and I think it was RodH in the other Alfa, made a couple of opps, although a little blurry, I think it was Snakeyes who slid out on one corner allowing me passed and then
the "Gas" sign came up, "it's okay Bruce, I put in 18 laps of fuel" , but then the demon said: "yeah but you upped the rev limit, I think it says you fofiet some economy!"

Thanks to the "Alfa Train" in an attempt to get me across the line, haha, you guys cracked me up! I hope it didn't compromise your placing.

:car::car::car:

Saw Cadabra at the start/finish line to the left of the wondered what had happened, (just read your posting, sorry I can't help, but I understand it would have been disappointing.)
Race2, now realising the off the line potential of the Coppa, I got off and into it but played it kool to avoid any problems, man I was up the backside of the Aliens!
Had some fun laps, (getting tired at this point and memory is slipping), mainly with sco_aus, man you pushed that little mini not to mention getting value out of the full width of th track. haha
I was feeling a little sea sick watching, so we diced for some time, swapping places, once having your whole car seamlessly glide THROUGH my car! hahah, no hint of contact, but your we in my seat at one point.

So FT is happy, 5th? in a field of 14, got to be a record for me, looking forward to all the upcoming races here at UGN-XGN, thanks for all for a great night of racing!

Hope to have some pics up soon...

hahaha, you have me in tears atm. Yeah, you see my internet connection is a little slow, so i would be on my racing line, then all of a sudden be out wide, but i also use the track to keep speed up. Sorry if i nearly took you out, i was having fun anyways and you beat me well. I tapped you on the shoulder to say hi too :D

Been on-line racing for 5 years now, and those were the best 2 races I,ve ever had, 5 of us nose to tail for the whole 1st race and some of the 2nd until I lost concentration, put a back wheel on the dirt and lost it.
Hadnt done any practise at all until after tea last night so did 2 flying laps in the Alfa, Cortina and Abarth to see which I liked. Alfa was slightly quicker but didnt like the ffb (very spikey) so went with the Cortina.
When I joined everyone in Alfas seemed to be going quicker than me so went off and got one, but still didnt like it so back to the Cortina. Was 3rd in practise behind Prodgers and Imperious , so very happy with that and very surprised to be quicker than Glen. Then in Qual everyone pulled their finger out, so back to 5th. Got past Imperious at the start as I knew I would (fwd hopeless with wheelspin)and then got in that enormous dice with Glen,D Smith and Imperious right on my tail till the very end. We were all so evenly matched the only chance of a pass was a mistake by the others but that didnt happen.Couple of times just managed to get up to the drivers door, but not enough for a pass.
2nd race went the same to about lap 8, and I was actually considering letting Imperious pass so I could watch it all from behind, lost concentration , put a wheel in the dirt and span across the road into the fence. Limped back to the pits,68 sec of damage and joined the leading group again but 2 laps down, where I continued to the end.
Great night racing and glad I suggested that group of cars as they were all very well balanced. Might have to learn how to drive the mini though as I think if Imperious had chosen the Cooper S it might have been different, and I,m sure he will for the All British night.

Well I could also write some great novel about how awesome that was but everyone kinda knows that already so I'll just stick with what I said after race 1 - If I never race this mod again, that one (now 2) races was worth the downloading and all the stuffing around to get it working!
(Giving realfeel the flick got me sorted out, no more mucking around now and I have my ffb set up wheel enough that it really doesnt't matter too much!)

By the way, just out of curiosity, tried a quick session in the Mustang just now and got into the 63s fairly easily, in fact a 62 would not be that hard, of course that was (is) the fastest track in Oz so that makes sense, I think a 1310cc Mini could go just as quick.

So Brands next week I see, with British cars hey? Might have to try a Jag just to be different!

First up to all the new guys well done, you all handled yourselves extremly well. I thought things could get a little messy having such a big influx of new guys but that certainly was not the case.

Dave'o i would say you may have crept over your starting position slightly and then you would have been issued a SG, if you dont complete this then its a DQ. I cant think of any other reason why you would get DQ'ed.

Race 1 was an awesome event, my only dissapointment was to see Sulio parked up after 1 lap, i know how that feels. The racing was fast and fair and certainly made me work very hard, The Prodge was to good again and after a little jimi made his way past after a little mistake. came home for 3rd

Race 2 I softened up the rear and upped the revs and radiator to 4, I hoped to get out of the corners quicker but it somewhat made the car a little less livery, i got the start i wanted and shot up to first holding "The Prodge" off, i hope i didnt shut the door to hard on that first corner, prodge and jimi took turns waiting for a mistake off me which happened later in the race, i over a shot a corner and left the door open, i then thought i would try and criss-cross "The Prodge" out of the corner but ran straight into jimi, i didnt see him there. We got cracking again and jimi pulled over to re-adress, i didnt think he had as i thought it was my own fault really for not seeing him untill the last second.
Finished 4th

Results are updated! (http://www.xgn.com.au/forums/showthread.php?p=1736#post1736)

Well, I was really happy with the car and getting a semi decent spot on the grid for the first race. But I stuffed up the start hardcore losing two spots, Regaining one before turn two. I sat in 6th for about 10laps I think and then came undone when trying to push a little to hard into the last turn spitting me into the wall and alas DNF

Race two for me was a woeful one, I jumped the start, pitted for my SG but was held for a near lap of the leaders, I cam out of the pits and decided not to continue as I would have been holding up everybody

I had a lot of fun and thankyou to all. I look forward to the BrandsHatch meet. The mini will return

After I was (Ejected) from the race last night i sat and watched you guys go at it, very entertaining stuff best night's viewing in a long time, now i just have to do some practicing for Brands Hatch, Just while i'm here how many of you guys use steering wheels and are they worth investing in.

Thanks again for last night only 3 laps but it was great fun.

P.S Any suggestions on which car to use at Brands Hatch

Had great fun last night - i could just do 100's of laps in those cars and then racing was just the cream on the cake.

I did a little bit of testing to see which car was faster. I was half a second faster in the cortina but i know i could get the alfa to go that fast and i preferred the way it handled (default setup).

First race i got a poor start and Glen went past. I think it was the 3rd lap Glen ran wide between T2 and T3 and i slipped through. Glen tagged along for a while and then by about lap 10 i had a nice gap and then the gap increased a lot faster as Glen came under pressure from other cars.

Race 2 i got another bad start and Glen got through again. This time he didnt run wide anywhere and found that my car was fast in all the wrong places. I could draw along side going down the straight but the top end of Glens car was too much and would hold me off. I seemed to be faster in the middle of a corner and the initial exit which made it hard to pass - i also seemed to lack a bit under braking which suited Glen just fine lol. At one stage Jim got past me when i rac wide at T2. Running out of laps i knew i had to make some moves stick and got back past Jim and then straight onto the back of Glen. I got my best run onto the straight and managed to hold and even line through T1. Glen got a bit out of shape when we rubbed at T2 and Jim finished him off (lol). I managed to pull a couple of seconds gap by the end of the race.

It was very enjoyable last night - these cars are very raceable and heaps of fun with the different cars having stranghts and weaknesses. I might make a few more rounds in a row because we are up to the V8 enduros in the other league and they are on weekends - not a wed night. :)

Dave'o, depending on your budget you cant go past the G25 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/wheels/devices/131&cl=au,en) pound for pound it is easily the best imho. But if your not willing to part with $210 (ebay) (http://search.ebay.com.au/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37.l1313&satitle=G25&category0=) then the other wheels would be better than no wheel at all. One thing that has improved my pace is using the 900 degrees of rotation. BTW off the shelf for a G25 look to pay $290 and no more. Ebay they normally go for no higher that $210+$30 shipping.

Then if you dont want a wheel you could always use a control. 99% of the serious Sim-racers in this league and many other leagues use wheels. Some of us have cockpits to but thats just for emersion really.

Regarding car choice in all honesty i think the Cortina is a good all round learning car out of those three unless you can come to grips with FWD which i cant lol. The Jag is a boat on wheels

Sco_aus and myself were running pretty close setups. I think there was still room for improvement but it was good enough for 1.05's in Quali

Changed Tyres sway bars and camber. Start with those three and you should get a brisk little beast. We had a lot of problems with it being to twitchy. the Camber helps
