Hi guys
Thats a pic I used in an AutoSimSport article a while back, its a guide to getting some very helpful and useful info up on screen in rFactor.

As for actually turning on virtual mirros, well for reasons only known to ISI (and goats they tell me :flock: ) these can not be turned on and off in game, they can only be turned on in the .plr file. The easiest thing to do is have 2 saved in the folder as shown below:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x64/Jiminee45/Menu.jpg

and then just copy and paste as required. The two files are identical except for this line:

Virtual Rearview In Cockpit="0"

which can be found under:

[ Graphic Options ]

Having it set to zero turns them off (default), putting them to 1 puts them on. Actually the neatest solution here is to do what ORSM did with V8Factor and make the virtual mirror an upgrade, but no one else has done this I think, which is a shame.

Also, the best way to find the 'line' where the pitlane speed starts:
Enter the pits with the HUD on and with any screen BUT the pit menu showing. When you cross the pit entry line it will change to the pit menu, letting you know exactly where it is. This is very helpful as it is not always where you might think and is often not shown.

As for navigating the HUD, I use a G25 so I do it using which ever gear changing method I am not using in the particular car.
I have a number of controller configurations in rFactor such as Sequential Shifting, Paddle Shifting, H pattern etc
So, for these HistoriX cars its always on H pattern so I have one paddle behind the wheel set to cycle through the HUD screens and the ther set to go back to the main timing HUD. I find this very useful, it saves cycling through the HUD endlessly which can be a distraction.
If I was driving an F1 car, I would have my stick shifter set to do the same thing while my paddles did the gear changing.

I also have a button set to PIT REQUEST. I push this at the start of the lap which I want to pit, it warns the pit crew and does lead to faster stops. It takes them at most half a lap to get read and you will get a message when they are. It also brings up the pit menu in the HUD so you can change your fuel intake, turn off damage repair, decide which tyres to change etc before getting into the lane. Be careful though, it can be distracting and lead to you going off.

Well, think thats all of my little pearls of wisdom for now, if I think of more I will post them up and if you have any questions, fire away.
Thanks
Jim

I thought that i should start searching the web to add some rfactor tips to help those that are very new it!

Keeping Recieved Setups

In your plr under [ Game Options ] look for:
Keep Received Setups="3" // 0=do not accept, 1=keep until next track, 2=keep until exit, 3=keep forever

Kind of explains it's self. But if you don't understand, when someone in MP sends a setup, this line controls what happens to it.

I recently found a video to help some of my friends get familiar with rFactor, and I figured you guys could use it for the same reason. It's unlikely that it covers anything new for the seasononed rFactor veteran, but it's a great resource for n00bs that might otherwise miss out on some of the features.

Q: Can I use mods in the trial version?
A: No.

Q: How do I use the chat window/type in cheat codes?
A: See this post (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=226046&highlight=chat)

Q: rFactor won't start or takes a very long time to start and runs slowly.
A: Most problems with rFactor starting are due to anti-virus software or programs like Zone Alarm. If disabling them doesn't help, see this post (http://forum.rscnet.org/showpost.php?p=3170729&postcount=4) for links to more possible solutions.

Q: Some of my rFactor files are lost or corrupted. Where can I get replacements?
A: ISI's rFactor file repository (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=254671)

Q: Where can I find more cars and tracks for rFactor?
A: http://www.rfactorcentral.com

Q: I lock up the brakes very easily, how do I brake?
A: See the thread here (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=271832) for a discussion on braking.

Q: How do I get rid of steering input lag?
A: See answer here (http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showpost.php?p=3557842&postcount=2)

Q: I downloaded a mod. How do I install it?
A: First step is read any readme files as they often contain instructions.
See this post (http://forum.rscnet.org/showpost.php?p=3089051&postcount=15) for a quick guide on where to put mods. Here for a more in depth tutorial.
Or use Mod Manager (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=274094)

Q: My pedals seem to go to 100% input half way through their travel making it hard to brake/accelerate
A: Try the suggestion in this post (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=262591)
Also, check the axis sensitivity. Start from 50% (fully linear) and work your way down until you find the position that works best for you.

Q: How do I increase the resolution in the mirrors?
