View Full Version : Suggestion for a Special Event (daveo will love it)

Well I dont know about you guys but i've always wanted to race some long tracks like Spa 67 and nordschleife. Reality is though they are just too big to run a rfactor race.. but 1 lap can still provide some fun...

So my proposal is for a tarmac rally type event over 3 courses. With a shorter special qualifying stage to decide the order for the first stage.

Qualifying Stage - A hill climb stage from the "hillclimb challenge 2009"
Stage 1 - Coffs Harbour
Stage 2 - Spa 1967
Stage 3 - Nordschleife (tourest version)

Total time would be added together from stages 1 to 3 to determine the winner.

Now to run the actual event I was thinking of a rally type start, slowest first to quickest last.

Using the normal "race" session in rfactor everyone could grid up.

Except when the light goes green only the person in pole leaves the grid and commences there lap.

Everyone else lines up in order on the inside of the track level with the grid box pole left from.

Then they are released every 30 seconds.

At the end the time standing still at the start is deducted from the lap time. (any deliberate false start would be given a 30 second penalty).

As for cars I really dont know, i was thinking maybe some of the slower cars from some of the historics season we run like the escort or lotus, but thats really open to what people want. I reckon slower and nimble is the go though. (we could even potentially run 2 different classes)

Anyway what does everyone think!

haha ive got some others tracks that would be prefect. My idea is to have a Dutton Rally type fun event. hillclimb, circuit, motorkhana, drag, etc. Ive got tracks to do it.

Like your thinking Paul. I love tarmac rally, it would be just like my beloved Classic Adelaide.

Nice work Paul, I like the concept and the mechanisations, but for me I just don't do enough to learn the LOOOOONG tracks (or I have learning problem :) )

The only one I know is the nordschleife (due to doing heaps of laps on GT4)... Perhaps we need navigator and pace notes.

Perhaps we need navigator and pace notes.

Yeah that would be one way to get my navigator into sim racing lol

Yeah, its also the reason i suggested using slower cars as well, more time to read the open road in front of you!

I like the idea. Would definitely be in if/when it happened.

Well ill come up with some ideas for some smaller tracks, the idea i had was to use the 207 S2000 mod, and to finish it off use the Race of Champions track. So head to head racing. :D

Isn't there a Targa Tasmania stage for Rfactor? "Mt Arrowsmith" i think!

You would be correct auspacer. :D

I think we should start off with an easier type of event and if people love it and it takes off we can run some longer stuff.

Has anyone made the Race to the Sky track for rFactor?

I'm keen for hillclimbs, I love them! Let's race up Goodwood :D

Yeh I think you're right daveo. Some shorter events first to gauge interest.

If this goes ahead, I'd put my hand up to make some pace notes if everyone thinks they would be worthwhile...?

Paul Keeghan

Yeah, most definitely for the longer tracks.
