iRacing has released first preview material of the two upcoming Australian content additions to their simulation, showing us first impressions of the Phillip Island Circuit and the Ford Falcon V8 supercar.
The Oceanic car and track are the first non US or European content items to make it into the online racing simulation. Keep in mind that these are work-in-progress images with several aspects of the car model and the track still being worked on.
Located in the state of Victoria, Philip Island is a 4.4 kilometer road course and one of Australia’s main road racing facilities. The track’s layout incorporates 12 turns, the track hosts the Australian V8 Supercar Series, the MotoGP series and has been rumored to be a future venue for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.

Doesn't matter anyhow, if they plan on hitting us Aussies with the V8 Add-on its a bit late as FVR have nailed it.

LOL... it's so much fun posting iRacing information here :D

I'm all for RF2, It's just so f***ing frustrating looking forward to an unknown date and time. If I need to race the next level of realistic simulation of cars and tracks now, I'm afraid I'm left with little other choice :)

It's fantastic, that's all I can say. Both the track and the car ;)

Glen: you're a nice guy, (or at least you were) we get the message, no need to play the archdevil against iRacing every time, repeatedly. It's getting boring, dude.

he still is i can assure you Bird, it's all in jest, and besides... the racing section is decidedly boring compared to the FPS section (ex. vent v TS3), so this is good :D

Oh, btw, I've practiced with Marcos Ambrose (http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/CareerStats.do?custid=25673) today. (yes it's him in person, and you need to be a member to see his stats in the link)

Found I had just enough in iRacing dollars to buy the Ford, but not the track and its not bad. Played around with it a bit and just realised where I was going wrong with iRacing (apart from the paying bit). In rFactor I have all the ffb settings at 100%, now have adjusted them to 50% for iRacing and its starting to feel much better.Still boring doing laps by yourself though.

You'll be able to race after this week (the 13th) is over, mate. The season will be single-car, not mixed like this. ;)

Btw guys any of you sick of the iRacing bashing here, you're more than welcome over at arseforums.com - more and more of us are joining iRacing there, and you can get all the chat & help you need without the negativism here.

Video looks very good, have they any servers in Aus yet?

Mr Fox
02-05-2010, 08:52 AM
After a quick google it says they were going to setup servers in sydney but all the google searches date no further than May 09? Has Bird stopped talking to us.

BJSRacer
02-05-2010, 09:09 AM
There is a Sydney server farm, not sure what happened to them....... ah... something to do with how they split the entrants, only Aussies were going on the Aus server, so there may be only 3 to race, where as it would be a field of 40 on the US server........ I never really had to big a problemwith 200 ping to US

Mr Fox
02-05-2010, 09:12 AM
So if i bought the V8's and P.I. can i drive and race them or do i have to do some rookie stuff first?

BJSRacer
02-05-2010, 09:15 AM
I don't think so, I still have to get out of my Rookie suit..... but I have all the cars :D

Mr Fox
02-05-2010, 09:24 AM
So can you practise what ever you like but can only race what your licence will allow, is that correct please sir?

BJSRacer
02-05-2010, 09:32 AM
Generally, except for the Week13 Events (end of season), they are open..... like now there is the C6.R v FG01 at Phillip Is :(

Bird
02-05-2010, 10:00 AM
So can you practise what ever you like but can only race what your licence will allow, is that correct please sir?

Yes, but not quite. You can practice on your own ("test") anytime on any car/track combo you've purchased. But to get into a multi-player session online, you need the meet the licence requirements, and own all content required for the session (usually just the one car and the one track). The week 13 is a different animal; eg for this week they've a mixed V8 event, so you need to own both the 'vette and the v8 to be able to get on - even for a praccy session.

Servers; there have been oz servers for a while, then they have been switched off. I'm hoping they get them back, altho lately it works very acceptable on US servers, too. (even on 300ms ping!) But when accidents happen it can cause grief, getting 4x's without touching anyone. Luckily you can escape damage if you did not touch the guy, but the 4x penalty is determined on the server, so you can't escape that. Happened to me a couple of time.

I think that's because the prediction works ok as long as everyone is on the track as they should be, but when they lose it the prediction goes out on the window...

The problem with oz servers was the splitting of the field; it has created funny situations on occasion, where people raced a much weaker or stronger field what they'd have had there been no regional split. So it's a bit of a controversial subject. I think you can still host races on oz servers, not sure about it tho.

Again;
I'm not big on the knowledge of iR; I'm just one customer getting back into it. If you'd like accurate information I suggest visiting the aforementioned forum and asking there. Darren is a really helpful guy and he knows pretty much everything - he's a bit of an insider, altho not employed afaik. (I'm sure you remember him, Glen, he was racing us in GTL for a season, then some porsche in RF as well, etc...he's a bit of an alien on the track, very fast & accurate.)

Thanks Bird, im sure your post will be usefull to everyone, my time is limited now with work and im really looking for something that keeps records and has clean drivers, the two things (besides Crashs Wed night league) rfactor doesnt have.

BJSRacer
02-05-2010, 10:48 AM
:)

I think if it is a Hosted race, you can race regardless of licence., just need required content.

What will people need to join my race?
The only requirements to join your race will be an active iRacing subscription, the content being raced and (if passworded) the password for the server.

Bird

Well, clean drivers...yeah on the higher end you find mostly clean and fast drivers, but at least clean ones, mostly. On the lower licenses you'll find either fast and unclean (worst kind) or slow and uncertain drivers, as well as ones who are new to the whole program. But once you're up to licence A or Pro you need to be very clean if you don't want to lose your licence level. I've had a race with one single 4x and lost SR due to it (and I'm only A, not Pro). Full 50 minute race with one incident! On lower levels it's not a big deal tho.

scottmac
02-05-2010, 06:51 PM
To Glen and anyone else interested, About your question regarding license levels. You have to get through your rookie license and then there is a fast track system which enables you to move through the license levels quickly through meeting the minimum 4 races or time trials. As long as your Safety Rating is what is required to go to the next license you can do it very quickly now as long as you have few incidents.

Also I am pretty sure the Aus servers are back at the start of the season but I am not sure the system in which the race splits works to determine which server you race on. I have mainly done oval racing and had no trouble racing close against people on the American server.

scottmac

That is one of the things I love about Iracing. The stats are amazing. You can check anyone's stats, world record times, qualyfing times, season standiings, race results from your 1st race to latest race.
