Well, i have just completed about 45 practice laps tonight.

It's going to be another one of those races, with treacherous turn1, driving in twitchy nimble cars, no rest for the wicked.

Did a best of 1:17.67.

Felt loose and out of control... it will be interesting to see what others are doing, post your times so we all know how much practice we will need :horn:

I noticed some of the cars are left hand drive, it will be interesting to see if there is an advantage in one over the other, mine is right hand drive.

I am running slightly softer rear shocks, slightly shorter final gear, 0.2 neg camber extra front and rear and 5kpa lower tyres all round. Quite happy with it. Ill get heaps of practice tonight.

Good time, I managed a 1.19.7, still more work to do, I may try hooking up my G25 shifter and setting the wheel to 900 degrees and see if I'm any good like that.

Well I;m still in the 1:22s, Steve, you talking about hooking up the G25, I think all sub 1:20 drivers should mandatorily use a PENCIL IN THE MOUTH on the keyboard only!

I think braking earlier will be the order come race night, too risky otherwise.

Out of my 45 laps, i would have come off at least 15 times, but once you work it out.......

I brake before the kink and the bump, then full throttle in 3rd, this settles the car down, then i can brake for the real first corner.

My setup is full hard on the suspension front and rear, it really makes the car more responsive, but Russ, it also tends to oversteer :bananapartyhat:

How does the game run when your ADSL is capped?? :censored:

Account rolls over Wednesday morning :bananapartyhat: so it will be OK for the race, don't know how it will go for practice though. Shapped to 56K, should i change my rFactor settings to reflect the reduced bandwidth or leave it as it is?

Aha!!! like we didnt expect rpo not to be going side ways. :P
Ive got a good setup going atm. Aslong as i dont go too hard into the kink coming into turn 1 i should be all fine. Granted i doubt ill make top 10 qualifiers but its good enough to be consistant.

It's going to be a tough race.

Very difficult track to overtake cleanly on. I was helping DmX on Monday night, and although i could lap 2 seconds a lap quicker, overtaking cleanly was very difficult.

I'm trying to decide what setup option to use. My current one, i can drive nicely and it drifts well, but only quick on a clean lap, i don't think it is a great setup for racing. I may need to change the diff ratio to get out of the corners quicker.... hmmm tough decision. I may even try Glens setup and see how i go.

I don't have any method to my setups, i usually make major changes to find what direction they are taking me, then try and fine tune that. I typically put -0.10 - -0.20 degrees toe in on the front, add some caster if it is an option, take a little front bar off as i prefer oversteer to understeer. but it is all clueless seat of the pants stuff :ohwell:

Haven't done a time as quick as you Stain, so you probably have the goods! Though a 16 !!! That would be quick, i believe it would be possible as on my current laps i can see where i loose a ton of time, but it is such a tricky circuit. I only drive in cockpit view, and seeing the apex's is sometimes difficult, bonnet view may help.

Ohhh, 1 thing to mention, who ever is on the front row tonight, you will need to start in bonnet view as the start lights are not visable when in cockpit view......

I never use the lights anyway, use the HUD and go when the timer starts.

I had trouble getting into the xgn racing channel on teamspeak do you guys use it during race nights?

Its a tricky track for overtaking but should be fun, wouldn't want to clip anyone while they're hanging sideways.

I spent about 3hrs working on this setup, if ive got the time which i did over the public holiday. I love setting up the car and trying to get the absolute maximum out of car and driver, i enjoy testing just as much as racing. Setups do help, one thing i do like is how limited the historic cars are in terms of adjustments makes for closer racing.

I'll be missing the next 2 weeks because i have the Bathurst 1000 (the full thing... online) and the prac nights are on Wednesdays.

I missed last week because i was away racing in NSW. I'll still be browsing the forums though. Have fun guys.

^^ i saw it there and just had to use it lol.

Hi Glen
I think any reversing of the grid will cause mayhem in that first corner, Not sure i wanna be at the pointy end creating a problem for the quicker guys

Cheers

Just thought this mite help guys that have trouble with 1st corner its a corner u can loose a lot of time in if ya try 2 hard to get around it 2 fast
Picture No 1. Coming down front straight try 2 stay as close 2 pit wall as possible .just after pit exit u will see tyre marks going into 1st part of the corner touch brakes and change down to 3rd try to get front wheel as close 2 inside curb as possible ie: ( picture 2 ) I always try 2 get the left side off the car on it , dont get to far over it as it can send ya car over 2 the other side off the track into the sand

In picture 3 you can see a line that goes straight across the track use this a marker ..i try 2 have the car back to 2nd gear and setteled by here any later and it just makes it hard 2 get around the next part off the corner and you will find ya self in the sand or off into the fence
Try 2 get the front left to touch the inside off this curb aswell then as u go throu the corner power on towards the out side curb ( i use 2nd through here as it stop excess wheel spin and sliding u may use 1st depending on ya gear setting )

hope this helps guys got the old girl into the 1-1:tape:'s after 10 laps looking forward to racing these 2night on 1 off my lease farvorite tracks

Another thing guys having brake lock prob try turning your brake pressure down in your garage settings i run mine at 65 - 70% get a lot less locking off ya tyres

Thanks to Dextreme & Glen73
for helping me out last night, It's that help that makes it easier for us new guys and helps ease some of the frustration of learning to drive these things. I'm using your help and the lap times are getting better but the biggest thing I notice is i'm able to lap more consistently without spinning out on every second corner.

If your in the top5 then your going to be fairly experienced and it shouldnt bother you if you were in pole or 5th on the grid. reversing the whole field is when big trouble starts, when i first started sim racing theres no way i would want to be at the front of the grid. So i can relate to daveo.
Anyway i shouldnt be suggesting things right before a race its probably not fair on the guys that have put in a lot of practise for this race. Maybe we can discuss a reverse top5 for the next sprint meet.
