KING OF THE MOUNTAIN - Hot Swap Fun Event - Wed 26th May

Blow your engine up or get disconnected last week? Not able to attend the first time but now you can? Here's your chance, it's King of the Mountain Ver 2.0 (AKA Prince of the Mountain)

:Banane20:

Like the first time we are combining the Hottest New Mod with the Greatest Racetrack in Australia

Yes, that right we are pitting GTHO against GTR XU-1 and R/T E49 at The Mountain with an Epic Hot-Swap Endurance race, but this time we will be time scaling (x10) the server to race through the night!

Will you be the ‘XGN PRINCE OF THE MOUNTAIN’

http://www.brock05.com/mrhdtgallery/brock72bathurst.jpg

Mod - Bathurst Legends 72 V1.1 (http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Bathurst%20Legends%201972) (I recommend the manual install)

Track - Bathurst ORSM V1.3 (2005 layout) (http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Bathurst%20ORSM)

Date - Wed 26th May - 45 laps (roughly around 2 hours 10mins)

Car Choice - Any car.

Ver 2.0, Endurance Hot Swap Fun Event Format:

Qualifying: 8:00pm - 15mins

(Driver pairings must use one car only for the team, it's best to decide who will qualify beforehand)

Warmup: following qualifying - 5mins

(Time for final hot swap testing)

Endurance Race: following Warmup - 45 laps (estimated duration: ~ 2hrs)

(Grid for the endurance race will be determined by qualifying)
(Server settings for enduro, Fuel 2x, Tyres 3x, Time x10)

This race will start (Gametime) of 3:00pm gametime and will be timescaled to a gametime of approx 20 hours, so we will race through the night. Ensure you have your lights mapped!!

Hot Swap instructions can be found here (http://www.xgn.com.au/forums/showthread.php?3640-Hotswap-Howto)

Note: the following are recommendations to avoid hotswap problems.

The person who will start the race should be the one that enters the server with the car, and the co-driver should enter as spectator. Swapping can be performed before race start without issues, but testing showed rfactor "remembers" who entered the server with the car and issues were seen when the person who entered as a spectator started the race.

Both drivers must use and assign exactly the same setup, only the steering lock should be changed. As brake bias can be adjusted while driving it's recommended to save it with the same settings.

NO setup changes should be done while you are a spectator, this has shown to cause hotswap problems. If you need to recieve the setup from your teammate, enter the server with a car, recieve it, change steering lock if required, save it in the correct (Bathurst) folder, assign it, then leave and re-enter as a spectator.

As we will be qualifying this time, its recommended the person who will start the race should also be the one that sets a qualifying time to avoid any starting grid issues.

Although Solo driving in the hotswap is allowed, For anyone considering it teaming up with someone to drive in a hot-swap event adds a whole new dimension to racing. It can be a lot of fun, and also a great way to really learn things from each other in terms of driving tips, pitstop strategies and so on.

You can post that you are "looking for teammate" in the main thread (this one) here (http://www.xgn.com.au/forums/showthread.php?5053-KING-OF-THE-MOUNTAIN-Hot-Swap-amp-Sprint-Race-Events-Wed-12th-amp-19th-May!!!)

Running as a single driver in the endurance round is ok*

Both the laps & nighttime are up for negotiation.. I'm actually thinking 40laps migt be better?

Night racing can be tougher on your graphics, although last time we did a night hotswap event (Fiats @ Misano) even the guys with lower specced equipment handled it ok, not sure if they turned thier detail levels down for that race or not though

EDIT: you can test your pc graphics by setting an offline race to a high timescale (maybe x20) with a late start and racing against some AI's. if your pc handles that ok you should be fine.. night racing has no impact to the server.. its all local graphics.

Racing into the night is a heap of fun. Going over the mountain at night... the mind boggles :)

If you have a older or lower spec PC you might just need to turn the detail down a bit. It shouldn't be too much of a problem thought as there is only 12 cars on the track. My PC is about 5 years old & handles it no problems.

Im a big fan of the 24 hour type time scale. Should be good fun.

I have to say I tested it.. and the lights on these old cars aren't great.. nothing like the lights on the fiats when we did the misano 24hr race but its drivable, and the immersion level is high as you go down conrod and hit areas with no lighting heheheh

Sounds like the mod is very authentic! haha I remember rallying my FJ all the other competitors with their CIBIs were always in a panic when they saw "the yellow glow" in the mirrors! If got near someone we had to stick like glue to use their lights, never new which was scarier, driving fast in our own poor light or fast hanging off tail lights!

Will give the night a test

with the vals doing 10 laps easily on a set of tyres, and I think the Torana's fuel tank was their problem maybe 37 laps may be an award number of laps (I hope the *&(*^ Falcon has more difficulty too)...
just thinking out loud

Something I just thought of - last week after 45 laps the loose/chop torana in 2nd was only about 12 seconds or so behind Imp's Charger.. and the loose/chop torana had a couple of moments... so I think the finish could have been even closer :bananapartyhat:

The issue is more the falcons I guess, if the engine in them lasts they will be hard to beat.. but I cant think of any specific number of laps that will hurt the falcon and not hurt the torana which is a shame.. other than doing more laps that is lol

Ultimately the falcons weakness is its engine.. only 30-35 laps last timebefore it went in clouds of smoke & flames.. so if anything more laps will increase the likelyhood of the falcon pulling off to the side with smoke pouring out :tape:

Basically us falcon drivers will have to slow down and cut back the revs if we want to see the chequered flag lol

Anyone know if there is a patch available to get rid of that horrible background noise at Bathurst?

Anyone know if there is a patch available to get rid of that horrible background noise at Bathurst?

Is that the repeative noise in certain parts of the track? (It may be the Ford and Holden supporters conspiring to strip Da Vals of their riteful place!), I don't have it, that noise, it may be an 'old install' problem? if not I believe I heard Daveo mention an in game fix, certain key combos...

DAVEO?

Go to the \GameData\Sounds\Ambient folder, and delete the file named fans_normal_1.wav

You can check its the right one by double clicking it and playing it in media player.. horrible, horrible sound.. it's actually a default rfactor sound and several tracks use it.. even though it's painful!!!!

45 laps and night is fine by me too. Night time is going to cause a bit of attrition though - it will make it a challenge!

Damage is turned down to 25% for this one (was 50% last time) the lighting around the track is not bad, which is a good thing becuase the lights in the cars of this mod are umm... authentic as Bruce put it lol

I've also changed it so passengers & spectators can use in game chat, and of course anyone who dnf's or disco's can come come enter back into the server as spectator as usual.

Should be fun

If anyone who didn't do the one last week is thinking about it. just rock up tomorrow night in the car of your choice, it's a fun event and all are welcome :bananapartyhat:

I did my test runs offline with a 60x time accel, so ive had a quick run with it in night and there is plenty of light in the key corners. And driving down conrod ORSM have made the town lights light up. Pretty cool.

Tomorrow night State of Origin is on, so I may miss the race.

Which of course means I can't defend my title, anyway I'll see what happens, if I'm not there start without me.

I did the same thing last night, just to check it out. It looks awesome as the lights come on, especially over the mountain, and the sky changes and the town lights up.

Did you find you needed the room lights off?

one thing i would suggest is installing the 24hour Skies addon. It gives that really cool effect of the different times of the day.

Just install it to your "/gamedata/locations" folder.

Did you find you needed the room lights off?

Nope - it was plenty bright. It might depend on your monitor though.
