View Full Version : Regularity?

Beavis is running in running his mx5 in a 6hr regularity race at winton in a couple of weeks, this got me thinking about such a race for XGN. It might even coax me out of temporary retirement.

Regularity requires you to "dial in" a Lap time, and the winner is the person who can keep their lap times the most consistent over the duration of the race.

Even better you could open it to any and every car in Historx as you do not need car parity as everyone is essentially racing themselves.

Just a thought for a special on Wednesdays.

I also like the sound of it. Would be interesting to do something different like that.

Hey, I'm running that 6 hour too!! I'll be there in....you guessed it....an RS2000!! :D I'll be sure to pop over and say hello Beavis, and make sure you do likewise, I'll be the only guy in a red RS2000 I imagine, so I'll be easy to find! :)

I don't really do the regularity in the spirit it's intended, I just nominate the absolute fastest lap time I can do with that much fuel on board and treat it like an extra long sprint :D :D :D Sometimes I break out, but who cares!!!!

How do these things work - are you racing other cars on the track at the same time?

Btw the sounds of it yes, but really you are racing yourself. The aim is to get a constant lap time. So cruising around with a comfortable pace.

No your racing yourself, or at least your consistency.
You nominate at time and the the winner is determined by the lest differnce over the number of laps.
They will be running these at Sandown in November for the Historics meeting celebrating the 60th Saloon cars in Aus.

You nominate at time and the the winner is determined by the lest difference over the number of laps. Cars are overtaking each other as the cars capabilities along with the drivers capabilities are mixed. A mixed bag of car types in the one 'race'.

Yeah, this way everyone could pick there most favorite car in all of historix and everyone can run together whilst still competing with each other on some level, even though on paper the cars are miles apart.

Usually they do not allow you timing devices in these types of events but i don't think there would be much you could do about that with rfactor.

Ive done a few of these at Mallala irl as a cheap way to get on the track and had an absolute ball. I also did ok at it because i find it easy to be consistent (just sticking to the same lines and brake points and rev limits) and i even ended up with a small trophy for fourth place on my first time out!

The most fun i had though was on a day when the weather kept changing. Practiced in the wet so my nominated time was about 12 seconds slower than my normal dry time. There was about 30 cars this day and my nominated time put me about 23rd on to the track, the last heat of the day it was dry (and i didnt bother changing my nominated time) so i just went for it and overtook about 20 cars, i blew my time out by miles but i had alot of fun!!!

Unfortunately i dont know how you would get around the timing thing in rfactor though (apart from relying on people being honest enough to turn off theyre hud)??

Intersting idea

No idea how you'd run it though as an admin lol

Only way I can think of is running it as say a 10 lap "race", with a rolling start (which may cause issues at the start) then do normal results using one of the standard programs like DCR. Once you have that - go through everyones individual laps in the results and compare to their nominated time, if they do a lap faster than their nominated time they get disqualifed

Then after that, with the peeps that are left, multiple their nominated times by 10 (for the 10 lap race) and manually order peeps by how close their total race time was to 10x their nominated laptimes

Bit of stuffing around, especially if you has 25-30 peeps on the night - I'm not putting my hand up to run that one :tape: hehehhe

one of the data collection web analysers does a standard deviation of lap times (ie ranks most consistent),

I figure the easiest way to run it in rfactor would be get everyone to nominate there lap time, this sets the grid (and thats it).

Then you set the race to be timed (you want it to be fairly long, say 30min at the least so everyone gets a good number of laps in), rolling start.

Most Consistent person according to the std deviation of there lap times claims the win.

edit: I'd let everyone use their lap timers anyway, since there is no particular time dialed in It wouldnt really matter.

Yeah that would work

doing away with nominated times makes it a lot easier

In fact - an alternative to nominating a time for grid placement, you could go through normal qualifying procedure, as long as everyone drove in qualifying realising they are trying to set thier "consistent" laptime and not thier fastest the grid should be close

Then everyone spreads out to give themselves space during the rolling start formation lap

Yeh thatd work, and i like the idea of a staggered start too.
