This should be really good. I have been reading up on 60s Aussie touring cars of late and the tracks and cars from this era are special.
I think we should do what we can to have skinned cars throughout the field. I am happy to continue contributing cars and working to make a skin pack. I just don't know how to setup a standalone 'championship'. I think you need to make a new rfm. I'd be happy to work with someone who knows how to do this and we can make an installer that is downloaded and once installed gives everyone the xgn skins and cars.

I love these older cars, and to race on ol school aussie tracks is a ripper idea..bring it on baby.........
i have made an XGN championship for GTR2 (not implemented but) so I cant see any issue doing it for rF. I am always willing and able to lend a hand FT/Glen...............just holler with instructions :)

Booyahh!!! what a way to start of 2009 iam in all the way. Considering well in the current season we have over 20+ racers do you think we could have Racing Teams? Iam not sure if this has been covered before or not just thought it might add to the excitement?
Also i would also like to extend my hand if the current admins need any help with any task i would be more than happy to be of assistance. *Note* Iam not streaking down the a main road with XGN HISTORY X Adverts on my cheeks thou :faint2:

i think have 2 or 3 car teams will be cool, im in :)
Can start a new thread for team mates.
Also DM we are going to need someone to organise how many laps at each event, Also a mixture of sprint rounds and 1 race rounds. Feel like doing any of that :)

Sure man... :)
Once you have finalized tracks for 2009 season 3 ill organize how many laps and wether it will be 1 race or sprint races.
Also another thing how many do you think would be happy to do a endurance race of some sort ? Providing it was set for a weekend night or something like that?

Due to not wanting to polute the track selection polls with discussion and arguments, I just thought that I'd post a quick couple of coments here. This is not an attempt to try and sway the admins, rather trying to give those that haven't voted yet some food for thought.
It really seems that people are going for the choices they are familiar with rather than a willingness to try something new. For instance, Warwick farm is a really nice circuit for these cars and a circuit few of us have raced on. I haven't. Also, it is historically appropriate for the kind of championship proposed. Mind you its also got a better rating at rfactor central than a track that is highly voted for here like Surfer's.It would be a great shame if it didn't get a run.
Amaroo is also a great historic circuit for Aussie touring cars. Tight and not the prettiest rfactor track but it fits these cars.
Its good to see Lakeside and Bathurst up there (shame there isn't an older version of Sandown) . A greater shame is the fact that Catalina Park isn't league ready. It has a crazy and forbidable history as a treacherous early motor racing circuit. Shutdown in 1969 but used as a rally-x site and finally by some locals for hooning around in. (two laps before the cops would arrive apparently!) Still exists but in total tatters and nearly reclaimed by the local bushland - in Blue Mountains just outside Sydney.
Anyways, hoping the intent of this post is well received...

I'll second that post.
Also add that it is a shame that there is no version of Bathurst available where conrod straight is straight all the way to the end.
Of course none of us have a right to complain because most of us don't know how to mod tracks. We are very lucky that there are such dedicated people out there who give up considerable amounts of their time to do this stuff.

Hey guys I know you've already put up polls for next seasons tracks (which I've voted) but here's some GPL converted tracks I found. You may even be aware of these already, but thought I'd share anyway :)
Sandown1968 (http://files.filefront.com/Sandown68rar/;11502727;/fileinfo.html)
Wigram (http://files.filefront.com/Wigramrar/;11466468;/fileinfo.html)
Levin (http://files.filefront.com/Levinrar/;12217842;/fileinfo.html)
I only just found the links, so have no idea what they're like in-game sorry, but as I mentioned they're GPL conversions so may not be up to 'rfactor' standard, but they're fitting to the HistorX mod era and may be worthwhile as some offline fun anyway :)
As for my thoughts on the race format, I've always enjoyed a 2-3 race per night event. Race 1&2 as sprint races (10-15mins), with race 3 longer (45-60mins) with pitstops and more points.

Wasn't there some talk of converting the GPL Bathurst to rFactor??
I remember reading about it linked to the Ausmodders GTHO/GTS mod...
I would love to keep it all "Of the period" and agree with redwog about people choosing tracks that they know..... i did :embarrassed:
I have only just started with rfactor so my knowledge of the tracks that are available is poor. However i think the tracks we choose should promote racing and make the admin jobs easier. I have been amased at the lack of cut track warnings on rFactor tracks as opposed to GTR2.
Maybe a short list of tracks should be proposed, then a group of drivers agree to a couple of testing nights to highlight any issues. Last nights start lights for example caught most out for race 1, if we pre drive/race the tracks it could make for a smoother league night.

Yes that's a very good idea, it's what we used to do at the addicts before each season. We'd choose a test night, people that could help would have all the proposed tracks installed, then we'd jump online and do a 3 lap quali session with a 3-4 lap race & pit. This would test several things to check they're all working correctly such as;
- Quali Lap counter (if you use set laps)
- Start lights (someone would jump start on purpose to check for penalty given)
- Cut detection (someone would cut on purpose to check for penalty given)
- Pits; speeding, seperate pit bays for each car and check to make sure drive thrus and stop/go penalties are cleared correctly
- mismatches (vehicle collision, etc)
It takes a while to get through all the tracks but it pays off when you have a smooth night of racing. If there's something wrong then hopefully you find out before race night.

thanks mate, atm im short on time to do such tasks, As far as lap cutting goes you wont find to many tracks with as good warning system as simbin titles. So if any one wants to cut in qualifying then it will be a 10 point deduction off your finishing position. I know it sounds harsh but when peeps cut 1 meter inside the track i think they know exctly what they have done.
Also it would be nice to sort out the season properly with lap numbers etc.

Will close off the Track at the end of November, once the tracks are finalised we/you can make a decision on what the format for the races will be.

Funnily enough, some mad bugger DID convert the Bathurst from GPL. Well, not exactly but close enough. Basically, back before ORSM released their version some people converted the Nascar 2003 Bathurst to rFactor, which I believe was converted from GPL first, and cleaned it up a bit too. It wasn't perfect by no means but I am certain it had the full conrod straight from back in the day. I have been trying to hunt around for it but it sorta fell by the wayside after the ORSM track came out. I will see what I can find :).
Oh and hi everyone! Long time, no post! :D Great to see the Historix really taking off, up to your 3rd season already!

Hi Acerlyte, pleased you are keeping in touch with us, yep season 3 in the making, we are still trying to keep up the momentum, still humming waiting for you. (-:]
It would add a greater level of 'gentlemanly racing' too i am sure, as the track would be narrower too.

Hey buddy hows things?
Good to see you around, shame you cant join in the fun but all in good time i hope. Has been pretty good racing in S1 and also S2 so far with a few mixed races inbetween (Lemans with Leman76 cars was the most emersive start i have been in sim racing full stop!). We had a lot of new guys to sim racing all together so it has been good to start our own foundation again with some of the old GTL regulars taking to historX very strongly.

Heya Bruce and Glen!
I have been having a flick through some of the threads and it's great to read how good the racing has been with the Historix cars. I'm glad to see it has taken off well given the popularity of Iracing and other sims out there. No doubt the success has been down to your great efforts and those of others who are participating. :thumb:
I can't lie, I am missing the racing terribly. I have tried to tinker around with some racing with my son on the playstation but it just isn't the same (Need for Speed never has really!). Maybe I ought to convince the missus to let me have Wednesday nights to race again... would be good :bounce:.
PS. No luck with the old Bathurst yet. Seems as though it was well and truly shoved out of sight and out of mind after the ORSM Bathurst hit but I will keep trying to find it :).

I understand. I have an agreement with my wife that Wednesday night is race night after dinner.
Any other time is adhoc, non scheduled and the sim racing is secondary. It is fair by me, I am an obsessive and would be on the computer far to much without that agreement. And it make me persue other interests on the 'off' nights even more zealously.
Although my wife views it as "play" she also understands my competitiveness after 35 years and obsessive sport addictions, and cuts some slack along with plenty of ribbing about the 'play'.

Thank god i got my woman into online gaming, she mainly plays FPS these days which is good because we can spend as much time as we like on our pc's the only downfall is you start to spend copious amounts of time on our pc's.

Hey guys could someone please tell me a good track to use for testing, ie learning the car and working out setups. I still haven't decided if I want to use the Alfa or Cortina yet so want to put down some decent laps where I can learn the car properly, it needs to be an Aussie or Kiwi track we're proposing to use next year.
Thanks for suggestions :)
p.s. How about the cricket? Go NZ!!

i use the next race track normally, but a short track to save time getting to a timed lap, with few bends and bumps, not too fast, try :

Hey guys, I asked over at f1classic forums about a GPL Bathurst for rfactor (they have lots of goodies over there) and there's one in the works apparently, here's the trackmakers response;
yokelhama,
i have just began conversion of this great 60's track, it has been done in Trackmaker so it has all the correct mathematical data as the original. I have it running in Rfactor and the long Conrod straight is a blast.
I am slowly redrawing some of the textures but i am finding it hard to locate textures from the 60's track, so if anybody here has any please let me know.
I created the first aiw yesterday but will be redoing the pit positions today, as the inline garages always cause problems in Rfactor.
regards
philrob
I've asked kindly for some progress screens (I don't like to bug people about that sorta stuff) so hopefully it's something we can use in the near future, depending if it gets released etc etc.
Cheers

Shall i forward it to you if i have it?

Thx rpo, but I don't actually have GPL any longer, I lost my disk when I moved house one time :( I assume it doesn't work on Vista anyway. Hopefully philrob can convert it reasonably quickly, I'm sure it'll be good quality too as the tracks he's released so far are good. I'll keep you all posted if he's lets us know anymore details.

Great find Yokel, it would be great to drive the Historics around the classic Bathurst more fitting of their time. I know the track is quite a blast in GPL with the ever sideways Formula one cars of the 60s.

Bathurst 60's - 70's has been released - http://rs281.rapidshare.com/files/182467255/67panoramaV1.rar 20mb
It's an overhauled and updated version of the GPL track, I'm yet to try it out but the converter (philrob) has some good tracks to his name so I'm sure it'll be good.
Perhaps something to use for S4?
