SOLVED

Since I've last driven in Historic GT, it's started micro-stuttering. Every 10 or 20 seconds, it hitches for a fraction of a second. Here's the weird thing - my other rFactor install with TCL etc in it doesn't do it.

Nothing really changes on this PC (except for Windows updates etc). I tried turning off/killing as much as I dare, but nothing has helped.

I tried copying the other rFactor's config.ini over the Historic one, but it still stutters.

I might have made it better by turning vsync back on (it was off in both my installs before).

GTX 275/i5/4GB RAM etc etc....

Anyone got any theories?

Sounds a bit wierd wally.. I know my rigs almost identical to yours, my historics install runs smooth as silk with everything maxed, probably better than my TCL install if anything, although I dont get any stutturs in either so its hard to say.

I do run my historics install in DX8 mode so I can alt-tab though.. dont see much difference with the Historic cars between DX8 & DX9, a bit of "glossiness" difference mainly, but its a tiny price to pay for the convenience of being able to alt-tab :)

as to why yours has suddenly started stuttering where it wasnt before, have you added or changed any plugins perhaps? (leo, realfeel, tv plugin, simtools etc) I guess another possibilty is some corruption in a file thats being read or written to constantly - a fresh install may be needed in that case perhaps

Since your TCL's fine, it seems unlikely its a graphics driver issue or anything lke that :noidea:

P.S. I have v-sync turned off, if you want I can post up what settings I have in nvidia control panel for rfactor

Thanks for the suggestions Crash but I think I found it. I had been trying to get LeoFFB to work with RealFeel and I turned on RealFeel logging in the realfeel ini file and it was writing heaps of information, causing the stutters.

Ahh good stuff

if it helps the enduracers readme has some good info on running realfeel & leo together, you'll have to change car specific settings of course, but in my enduracers install I have the leo + realfeel combo - it works very well, I dont normally like leo, always feels a bit too "buffered" or something for me and I struggle to catch slides with it, as well as an unnatural feeling when using of lot of lock.. but the combo of the two together seems to get the best of both of them :)

Thanks, I'm already using a realfeal/Leo combination in TCL. I wasn't sure if it would work in Historics because the FFB upgrade that you "buy" is called "100% realfeel". I might fiddle a bit more to find a good mix of the two.
