******Taken from another site*******

Hi,

Did you know the Government is proposing an internet censorship scheme
that goes further than any other democracy in the world?

I've just signed a petition to prevent the scheme that will make the
internet up to 87% slower, more expensive, accidentally block up to one
in 12 legitimate sites, will miss the vast majority of inappropriate
content and is very easily sidestepped. The government of the day may
add any ‘unwanted’ site to a secret blacklist under the scheme.

Our Government should be doing all in its power to take Australia into
the 21st century economy, and to protect our children. This proposed
internet censorship does neither. Can you join me and take action on the
net today to save the net?

Everybody please add your email to the petition.

I just wanted to add my own bit, I think the censorship of the internet is up to the parents of the child, just like parental guidence is needed for just about every other daily excercise i dont see the internet being any different. Theres also some pretty good software around, that can block out 95% of content. Also from my own perspective i wouldnt let either of my 2 girls on the internet un-supervised.

From a gaming point of view, our network system is already crap compared to other country's so that would virtually kill off online gaming aswell.

Cheers
glen.

Absolutely right Glen, the Government already provides software for free for families that want to 'protect' their children from the nasties of the internet. Like you said, its up to parents to take care of their children, same story with violent video games really. Though you'll never see an R18 rating for digital media like that because a South Australian Senator is an angel and is 'protecting' the kids from it. Personally I have no interest in games like that but I think the idea is very much the same. This is one of the more stupid policies the Government has come up with lately but its good to see its finally getting some attention and hopefully it won't be implemented.

Thanks for posting this up Glen, added my details to the list. An absolutely ill-concieved solution with many negative effects for Australian net users.
