Nice cars, i shall do some photo's of stuff soon. Just let one of the cars go (sold). Different seat to them RPO as i said there the little brother off Saas, AutotecincA :fear:
I wanted fixed back but couldnt do it for RWC reasons being a coupe with rear seats. So these seats i found fitted in perfect otherwise it was going to be custom made and that wouldnt be cheap.

Love the bikes to that 1100 would fly.

Very nice Moto Morini Pat,

A mate of mine in into Laverda's, hed has had an 82 Jota 180 that he owned for about 20 years, then had to sell it last year:tape:, Laverda SFC1000 and a little 500 Laverda parallel twin, beautiful bikes. His 500 reminded me very much of yours.

There is something about the Italians, they know how to do it right (unless you have to service them and keep them running)

I have a love hate relationship with my Bimota, i love to ride it and marvel at its engineering, but i hate anything to do with servicing or maintaining the thing :fear:

Nice article Imperious.

Chrs Steve hoping to get Club plates on it this year as it has just turned 30 years old.

Yeah always had a respect for Italian bikes, had read a lot about the wild nature of 180 Jotas and finally got to ride one few years back. I had stored a friends Spondon framed 180 in the spare bedroom on condition I could ride it before it went away again. Was nice to ride even on bumpy roads but the wild nature was not really evident.

Oohh, i knew someone with a spondon framed Jota, What state of Aus are you in? Can't be many around!!

There aren't that many people who know about Spondon, i assume you would like things like McIntosh Suzukis and Harris'

How did you go with the gearshift on the wrong side?

When i did the Barry Sheene ride in 2007, there was a McIntosh Suzuki, along for the ride, most people were looking at it and my Bimota asking what they were, it amazed me how few riders knew about these gems we own and covet

My zed has an RB25det in it with 16x 10 wheels and tower to tower roll cage (basically a race car). Hoping to run a few CAMS Vic state race rounds in it this year.

I have another in the shed with a l29 with triple webers which will hopfully be finished soon.

If any of you Z owners are chasing Carbs, i have a few laying around (somewhere) got a selection of 45 & i think a 48 Weber & dellorto.

How is this for obscure, i even have a sidedraft manifold to suit a 245/265 Chrysler, and another sidedraft manifold for a 1600 ford.

I bought them years ago for some long forgotten projects, PM me and make me an offer.

We might need a buy and sell section soon!!

Been driving a company car for the last couple of years. It's a VZ Commodore and I have gotta say it's the worst car I'v ever driven. Not only does it handle like a **** box, it's been nothing but problems since I got it.

I have always been a Ford fan and this car has just made me feel stronger about it. I used to have a turbo charged EL Falcon and despite some cooling issues it was a blast.

Thks for sharing the Z specs guys alwys nice to know whats under the bonnet. Ash that car must be a rocket !!

Steve

I believe ther are 2 spondon Lavs in Aus 1 was being raced in SA/VIC and is probably the one you know of. I thk that the one my mate sold also went south to VIC will check with him.

And yer like all the special framed exotics, always reckoned the 600TT2 Dukes were great and hope to own one day. Lot of replicas around, mate I used to race with had a Harris framed TT2 that I got to ride and was one sweet handling bike. Hard to imagine how nice your Bimota must be on the track.

rpo83
23-01-2009, 06:51 PM
Hi Pat,

The Spondon Lav i knew about was imported into Victoria about 89 -90 from memory, it was to be a street bike, it was painted blue :ohwell:

I don't have the nerve to punt the SB6 around the track, i don't have much self control, and trying to find parts, and the cost of them would scare me silly. Although there has been a guy in Sydney offering replacement fiberglass fairings. This has me sort of interested as i could take the Carbon Fiber fairing off and keep it safe, still the self control thing worries me, the bike is stupidly fast :fear: but it feels rock solid at speed, yet changes direction so well.

A mate of mine has just sold his GSXR1000 for a new GSXR600 to use exclusively as a track bike for Phillip Island, he keeps applying pressure, maybe i'll cave, time will tell.

Heres a few more of the RScort

By the way for all the Melbourne guys, the first Sunday in Feb is Small Ford Sunday at Bundurra park just off Plenty road, its a big meet and it's free entry, there are lots of very tasty Escorts, Capri's and Corty's on show aswell as Pops and Angry Anglia's, there will be a selection of very very nice Sierra's and a few moderns like the Fiesty and Focus so pop in if you have the time and give yourselves a few hours to have a good geeza, hope to see you there.

Just to add to my previous comments on my car.

Today while running under low revs approx 80kph with cruise control on, it dropped to 3 cylinders leaving me stranded on the side of the road for 3 hours and no way to get to the party. Not to mention the fact I probably won't have a car for a week or so, at least it's still under warranty.

The tow truck driver said he tows a ridiculous amount of new commodores and that you would have to be raving mad to buy one.

LOL its funny on a 35+ degree day how many fords you pass by on the side of the road.

Seriously Chris it sounds like its a lemon, you get them in all makes and to be honest i feel like all new cars drive the exact same. No Charactor, just get in and drive.

To date i have had

1 Datsun 180B
1 Camira
1 ZK fairlane
1 VN S
1 Toyota Troop Carrier
1 VR Clubby
1 XD 302 (project)
1 Mazda MX5 (turbo project)
1 VY SC Commodore

Currently
1 Datsun 260Z (project)
1 GXL Landcruiser
1 1987 Toyota high roller (corolla)

The best car out of that lot that has just kept on going and going and going is the high rolla. You couldnt kill it if you tried, (and i have) closely followed by the VN, had that for 7 years and the worst it ever did was a main seal between the Motor and gearbox.

The worst cars i have owned is the troopy then the ZK. Both had major electrical problems. Things i have learnt over the years is some cars are just lemons, doesnt matter how much you spend it will always find another way to let you down.
Anyway i have jibbered on enough.

That is interesting, as usually the last of a model series in the best, VL commodore a good example. My now 22 year old Calais still has original Motor and Auto Gearbox. The motor I have only changed the rocker cover gasket and basic serviceing in 11 years and 300000 k's, and it still doesn't use hardly any oil.
This will sound bad but I have serviced the Auto twice in 11 years, and it still goes ok, oil is in good condition, although at one point It developed a very bad vibration at 100k's, and I found someone in a forum that said to disconnect a wiring connector to the torque converter lockup plate clutch, which fixed it. It does slip a bit when hot though, but most auto's don't last 300000 k's anyway.
I am now looking for a new car, likely 2nd hand, so it will be gone sometime soonish.

My cars so far have been

1. 1985-1988, Leyland (Morris) Marina 1750cc, worst suspension ever fitted to a car, would almost rollover at the sight of a corner.
2. 1988-1990, 1968 VE Valiant with 225 Slant six, almost bulletproof engines and You couldn't beat the Torqueflite Auto's for their time.
3. 1990-1993, 1979 Mitsubishi Sigma SE, worst car I ever bought, paid $3400 sold $900, they were built to last 10 years max only
4. 1992-1998, 1966 AP6V8 Valiant 273ci Torqueflite auto, one of the best cars I owned, I even still dream about it occasionally, now worth over $10000 in good condition
5. 1998-2009 VL Calais, cannot fault it at all, except it is worn out everywhere except the engine, Nissan RB30 last forever almost.

I think the VZ has alot of components from the VE in it's make up. Obviously it has the old body shape, but it has the 3.5 litre motor from the VE that's for sure. Not that it would be huge change from the old 3.8.

Hi Guys

Love seeing all the cars especially the ford RS2000.

Here are a couple of my cars that I have spent far to much money on! lol

My first car that I did up was a Mitsub Gallant 93. I bought a twin turbo engine from Japan, rear diff, racing clutch the lot. Ran it at 17 pounds boost.
Then the cops caneried it :censored: and had to spend 10,000 just to get it road worthy. Vipac steep in because engine had never been aloud in this country. Once I got it fixed I sold it :fear:

The next car is the car I am driving at the moument. It is the Mazda 3 MPS 0 to 100 in 6.1 secs. In the next 3 months I will be putting front mount intercooler, dump pipe, sports exhaust and a uni chip. Will bring it up to 230 to 240kw at the wheels 0 to 100 in 5 secs yea :Banane31::bananapartyhat::not_ripe:

The best bit about this is it is all legal. (except the uni chip but that can't be found)

I havn't owned many cars, but have driven many different vehicles for jobs.

Have owned:
Bitsumishi Cordial (P plates)
Nissan Pulsar N15 SSS (stolen)
VL commie (never got it running, fuel delivery problem somewhere)

Own:
Datsun 260Z 2 seater (RB25DET)
HJ75 Landcruiser Troop Carrier (12HT)

spent probly close to $70k on the datto and about $25k on the troopie, but as i found today, there is still more to be done on the troopie. MY theory is, get a vehicle that suits you and you would be happy owning for your whole life, then make it exactly how you want it and with a bit of luck, maintenance and love you shouldn't ever have to buy another vehicle.

Spoke to Holdens service manager today. He was completely unwilling to even apologise for the issues I have had with the car, he seemed more interested in defending the car and any previous repair work undertaken on it by Holden, when I questioned their lack of care in regards to warranty jobs. They almost seem unwilling to accept negative feedback regarding their vehicles. He even asked me how many cars I had owned previously (like that even matters) and was borderline rude about the whole thing.

How can this company expect to compete over the next 20 - 30 years. They might have a loyal following now, but people will only put up with **** for so long.

I went till the temp needle went off the guage and decided i had to stop it had to make the drive home the next day i swept up 1/2 a bucket of rubber. I sold the car a couple of years ago iv just got a maxima with 320,000km on the clock still going strong and a vl commodore now.

This was my first car v8 hz kingswood ute i built the motor myself when i was 17 i was doing my apprenticeship it had 308 with 60thou oversized flattop pistons, isky 262 supercam package it come with lifters and better double valve springs, 650 holley, 4into1 extractors after this vid was made upgraded to side exit exhaust it cost me thousands to do up and i should never have sold it. I did go to bathurst with the money i got from it though.

You must have shares in the Dunlop OS-Mike, not to mention possible emphasima, and I see you use the best in pistons!

Getting smarter in my old age Mike :)

I had always known about early muscle cars, and had an interest in the Falcons we race here, but with the $US down, car prices in the states down and a mate just purchased a nice 57 Buick Century Riviera from Las Vegas, I jumped!

This had been up for sale since early May, at a much higher price, but the owner, a collector, put quite a few of these on the market, so a little slow moving them all, our luck. (I found out after purchasing the car, the collector/owner had sold one of his 3 warehouses and had to cull his collection down to 90 cars!)

Very happy, so is my daughter and espesh my son-in-law :bounce:

$US1000 from St Louis Missori to Long Beach CA.

I am using a local, Victorian importer, hand all paper work to them and deliver the car to Long Beach CA, and for $AUS3400 the car will be available to pick locally, all done.

But after about 20 over 35 yrs, without being carted away in an ambulance or pemanently boxed, sold my last one a year ago.

You will need to have a word to the guy in the video though... doesn't he know ho to treat a classic.

If you run into problems shipping, a mate of mine ships classic muscle cars out of LA, just pm me if you need anything.

The tripples are a nice upgrade, they put out 330HP with the 4 barrel, not sure of the increase with the triples.
Ahh the brakes, might be a dual system upgrade just in case, I know the brakes are adequate until pushed hard, a failing even Ford acknowledged when racing these things, yep and they are very naughty reving the cold engine, grrrr, but lets hope it was warmed up before the video was started, (but I don't think so, noted a little condensation).
and thanks for the kind offer of your mate for shipping, if my friend had not put me onto a local whom he has used before and using now for his Buick, I would take you up, it's appreciated.

Looks like a little work when it gets here, but should be fun stuff, as I said to Mike, getting smarter!

hmmm congrats Bruce looks like it just rolled off the factory floor, you must be counting the days, i would be.

now the Tri-power... i thought that would be referring to the auto? like the old HQ's with tri-matic logo on the back. If it had top mounted triples (as that's where the air filter is) then they must be very well tuned to rev nicely on a cold start. So i reckon it was warmed up a little:Banane31:

I had a quick google to try find some more stuff out on Tri-power as it has me intrigued if they are in-fact some form of top mounted triples. Hoping you can enlighten me as i love older style engines (non efi) but more so how they worked.

Tri-power is a hot rod term, some say "A real hot rod had 3 carbs!", I think some of the manufactures also badged some cars with "Tri-Power" for the triple carb setup up.

Different setups, but the common way for street use is:
the centre carb has a choke and is the primary carb, linked to open the other two once the throttle is 1/2 open, giving, cough, cough, economy or performance.

off to a meeting...

There are monthly events in Mornington (http://www.letsgocruisin.com.au/cruise-night.html) and News Year Day a lot of us end up at the park near the pier at the end of main street and it is now big enough to fill the park, so if your interested in seeing some rods, kustoms and other pre plastic bumper cars, wander down and have a look around. I am pretty sure we will be there again this year in the Buick at least as the other car won't be here for 2-3 months.

Trailer went very well, looking at the style of your bike i guessed mid ninties with the round headlights but newer tail. I been looking at a lot of bikes trying to decide what to do with mine. In the mean time i bought a dogbone to lift the rear by 25mm. Supposedly helps with turn in as well. Not sure about the exup valve either, flatspot on 4000rpm and the wheels are still disgustingly dirty.

Nope still legal, was a four stroke 250 that rev'd to 16500rpm. Was a great bike to learn on. Lacked a lot of torque being a small motor but the rev's made you feel fast and the braking and cornering is where it was really good.

Yer, i got a tail of a 96ish ZX as well, thats what caught my eye.... The exhaust was wrapped in a sleeve of a tracksuit bottom. Also inside the tracksuit was two rain jackets, a his and hers. In one of the jackets was some "access to all" pass to a 2001 event. Also was $7.35. It was the old $5 note as well. So in my investigations i figured the tail and exhaust was a Ex boyfriends for one reason or another as those exhaust are quite expensive and the tail is also in really good condition. It was outside a group of small upper class units where space is vital. The big man smiled on me that day.

My biggest laugh came later when i used that $5 to buy some papers. There's some local Idians at a servo. When i gave it to them one of them snached it off the other and started checking to see if it was legit holding up to the window talking Indian. All the while i walked out and told them to keep the change with a smile.

Definately something missing mate...

Probably a reflector and dress trim piece.

When do the wheels get a lick of paint??

Don't do what i did and polish your rims, they look trick but now when the speeds get hysterical i tend to worry about a rim failure do to the amount of material they removed to polish :fear:

There's a badge that goes above the tail light, that would fill those holes. Other than that, i cant see any differences from the large obsessive photo collection i have gained over the last month of fizzers :tape:

I was reffering to you riding out to have a look, the day is now completely booked...

For the track day full leathers is required.

On the road i use Draggin Jeans and various jackets. Lately mainly dirt orientated jackets as they have tons of pockets, so they are handy.

The biggest problem with draggin jeans and all other various types of casual clothing, is that when you fall off, the clothes move. Only really safe option is either 1 piece leathers or 2 piece zip together leathers. My last hospital visit, took a fair bit of flesh from my hip, as the pointy bits of your body end up being the bits you slide on, jeans easily move exposing these areas.

Mr Fox

had to fill a bucket with a hose because the tap is behind a massive pot plant and the bucket wont fit. bloody stupid rule though, i reckon i wasted more water cleaning it with the bucket that i ever would have with the hose itself.

unfortunatly yokel the senators didnt come in manual to until recently, i picked this up for a steal (been looking at it since janurary) and the umming and ahhing about the fact its not a manual was much outweighed by the cost (or lack thereof).

Hey guys, here is something else i have done over the Christmas break. i have acquired a Cortina project car. This car means a bit more to me than just a Cortina project car as this is actually the second time i have owned it. I first bought this car in Whyalla when i was 15 in 1993 as my first set of wheels. My Dad and i set about respraying it and updating the very tired engine with a Pinto 2L. Being a young kid the colour i chose was Cranberry Mica. Anyway, after a year or two i had the opportunity to buy a mint 2 Door VG Valiant so the Cortina was sold. I moved away and occasionally looked at getting a Cortina again but that was about it. Then a couple of months ago a friend of mine still living in Whyalla told me he had my old car and if i could organise transport it was mine. He said it was a bit worse than when i had last seen it but i had to have it. Now it is in my shed some 15 years later ready for rebuild number 2. It needs a fair bit of work but with some TLC i am sure it will be back on the road in time. I have posted some pics of our rescue mission for you to have a look at.

3204
3202

The research i have done so far suggests that it is a 1965 440 with a 1500 and column shift. It was painted Sunlit Beige Metallic and had a Palomino interior. The ID plate has the colour as "DDD" which i presume means it was all one colour, but if i am wrong would love to know. When i bought the car in 1993 it had been repainted in a non-metallic "Army" green for want of a better description with a white roof. It had a crossflow 1600 with floor shift in it too.

It's a long way away i know, but my plans for the car are to put it back to original colour with a warm pre-crossflow kent, sporty suspension and some of those wide Lotus steelies.

For anyone interested here is the car as i last saw it circa 1994 You can see the colour the car was when i first bought it in the Primer photo. The whole car was the same as the wheel.

Hey Cal only just noticed your new stable item, very desirable and and an exceptional example.
Zooming on I noticed the decal on the boot lid, what is the significance of the track with this model? It looks like it belongs on that track.

Cal

No significance mate. I just love the track and it's well suited to E30's. :)

Bought the Mrs a Kraut wagon the other day too.

Nice E30 Cal! I want to get one as my daily driver when I move back to NZ later next year. Got any buyers tips for me? I'm looking at a 325 manual.

Awesome Glen. Two of the members of our club use to race HQs in NSW and one of them also in hillclimbs. The older one was a champion for awhile IIRC.

Good luck with it Glenn, they can certainly be picked up cheap enough now, the only thing that may be worth looking into is how long they are gonna keep the series going for... At one stage the saloon car class was supposed to be the successor to the hq class...but both series have been running for a while now so who knows?

We got home not long ago, I been up since 4am full of excitment, I was playing the new build of Iracing @ 5am killing time until the tribe awoke.

The long and short of it.

I made an enquiry about this car around a month ago, It sounded good but I needed to make a decision on what I was going to do with it and If I realistically had enough of a budget to run it for a season. I rang him again early this week to see if I could get some more detailed pics of specific area's of the car. Based off the pictures last night I arranged to take the two and a half hour trip and view it.
It's not often the car in real life surpasses my expections.... This did so much so I didn't have the gall to offer him any less that his asking price.
The car was a thunder dome Hq, He put a new shell on it in 2010 which is the cleanest Hq I have seen in a long time. The decision I had to make was that it wasnt spec'd to 2011 Hq requirements. Track day car or race car.....

His brother works for FPR so he re-did the roll cage, the whole car is amazingly clean, Steve the owner is a spray painter by trade so he did a suberb job. Inside and out is just simply amazing. Steve's best mate (previous state champion) builds the motors and races Hq's
The motor was rebuilt 400klm's ago, the switches and all instruments work great, My arse just fits in the seat so I'm a happy camper.

So I decided this car is going to be pampered and loved with track days and wont see any racing of the rough Hq boys. He didnt race it for that reason as they (Hq class) see a super clean car and like to leave thier paint on it. I would race it with similar minded peeps as myself but for now i would literally cry if it copped a whack! It's just to straight and shiny.

Pics tomorrow.

Nar no trailer, I got a spare box and another set of mags, those mags on it are the good light weight jelly mags. Rubber is only 1 track day old :) So I will hire a trailer for now but later on plan to buy one that I can fix up a bit.

just out of curiosity, what gearbox is this running? My old man used to have a kingswood when he was a young lad, and it was a 3 speed column shift manual. Now i understand that the HQ series also uses a 3 speed but It looks like yours is a floor shifter. is it the 4 speed and the reason why it isnt up to 2011 regs???

Same box but they put the speco kit in, basically turns them into a 3 on the floor instead of 3 on the tree :)

comparing to a normal H pattern.....reverse is where first is, first is where second is and third is has taken fourth's spot.

Watch this guys shifting points.

I had an Impala floor shift in my EK van, slower than the column in my book, but it had high KOOL value, just don't ask my wife about the broken linkage in the middle of a busy Melbourne intersection on a Friday night!

love those synchros too :)

I once had a hq three on the tree that i put an impala floor shifter into...bought the shifter second hand, the looseness in the linkages was cured with some different thickness washers from the hardware store...just packed them out till they were real tight!!! Still used to jam sometimes though!

Well you don't need a reason to drop in for a cup of tea. Sadly I might have a few dramas getting the car to you for a look over. I would if I could.

No worries GW, if you win the hq series in Rf you must he worthy :)

Old mans mustang (1965) has had the same washer treatment, he got stuck in the city once at an intersection too, under the car with a screw driver trying to unjam the gear box.
