Maybe we should all rock up at a certain racer's house in Edwarstown Wed nights

After all there must be some sort of prize for the best connection

The prize is that I don't have to go through the pain of getting my daughter to stop streaming TripleJ while I'm racing

Those with ADSL can try reconnecting the phone to their router to get the lowest connection speed,
I do this as it usually gives the best Signal/Noise ratio.

Normally my connection is around 5300mb/s, but doing this can
reduce it to 4800mb/s which improves the s/n from about 6-10db
    to 9-12db.
low s/n ratio will give problems too.

OK, When I first got my TPG adsl2 I was getting up to 7000mb/s connection speed, with very poor signal/noise ratio, like 6db and below, once it got below 3db the connection would drop out fairly soon.
TPG adjusted it and made it a bit more reliable, but even so, the signal/noise ratio still deteriorates after some time with a higher connection speed.
The pic below has the s/n ratio between 12db and 9db, but will drop to 6db after 6 or more hours, still up and down though.

I have found that the lower I can get it to connect at (around 4800mb/s), the better the s/n is and there is almost no chance of a disconnect.
So before the race I remove and reconnect the phone line just to make sure I won't have any problems with the Internet for a few hours, sometimes a few times to make sure I have a good connection.

Of course Thunderstorms add noise which more often than not causes a disconnect, but Computers shouldn't be on in storms anyway.

yer thats pretty average download speed you got there. but your uploads downloads and plentiful for gaming

Id look at doing the test again at different times in the day to see if there is much variation.

Where abouts in Melbourne are you oddnutz? I am in Melbourne using Internode ADSL and i am not very far from the exchange however in the last month or so my download speeds have reduced severley.. after numerous calls to internode it appears after there investigation the exchange is overloaded hence the dramatic drop in DL speed.. telstra has been notified but i wont hold my breath as to when this will get fixed
