Thanks guys! But never again will I drive solo, I was so stuffed afterwards lol. It was a great event, I'm glad I did it the longest I'd driven before was 1:15 hours so I was just stoked to finish. I decided to race alone as I wasn't 100% sure if I could race so didn't want to commit to a team-mate only to not race. I'd done a 30min race the night before so at least I knew the track.
After Wally went off on the formation lap it said I had to stay behind him so I started dead last. Picked off a few cars and avoided some spins over the first few laps and settled into a nice rhythm. After the first round of pits I was even sitting in 2nd for abit, but then dropped back again to 7th after the 2nd round of stops. Had some good laps with Rpo & Jeff till I accidently fixed damage in the pits and lost 20 secs. About 1 hour into it I was losing concentration and was just really lapping without any focus and I started losing time. With about 30mins left I was sitting in 6th, had just pitted for 4 new tyres and was determined to keep it together for the finish.
I hit the pit limit button too early leaving my final pitstop and got a drive-thruI served that promptly but lost positions to Wally and Slacker. With 10laps left I put the hammer down and caught Wal and Slacker and we had some really great laps with lots of passing. Slacker came out on top and we crossed within a few secs of each other. Was great to have that battle at the end, it definitely was a real test of concentration!
Well done to the winners, you deserve the bragging rights and to Rpo for 5th driving solo too!![]()

Just spent 20 minutes writing a report and FF crashed when i opened up the smiles window
OK as i was saying, i had no intention of competing at this event, i have been busy with other stuff and the modern cars don't really do it for me. I like lumbering old cars with no brakes
Matt PM'd me about teaming up with him, so i thought why not, i enjoy enduro's and we did pretty good last time. I downloaded the mod and track update on Sunday night. Completed about 5 laps, crashed my brains out on about 15Touchy little sucker..... I was happy that the mod was installed and we would have no problems on the server.
Jumped into qualifying Monday, expecting to see Matt, and for him to have a killer setup for me...... So much for that plan, Matt didn't show. I battled around around in the 27's and 8's getting nowhere until Crash kindly sent me a setup. Thanks mate. I ended up qualifying 6th in the mid 24's very happy with those times.
I pm'd Matt after qual to suggest we discuss a plan for the eventnothing nada.... i think he may have been abducted by
Wednesday finally came around, obviously the aliens were having to much fun PROBING Matt, so it was to be a solo run for me. In a way i think it is less pressure when you run solo, if you stuff up, it is only your own night that is destroyed.
I had done no laps other than qual and the first download night, i didn't know how long the tyres would last, or what fuel strategy to use. So my race plan was pretty simple, fill the car up and drive.
I spent the first 5 or 6 laps watching the gaps to those around me, then switched the LCD to tyre temps. I ended up driving in no mans land for a while. I didn't have the pace of the 4 guys ahead, and i was slightly quicker than those behind. 1st pit stop only fuel, all tyres were green...JUST.
The next session was pretty much the same story as the first, except for those on different strtegies. I overtook wid/nineten and Jeff/Crash in the pits. When i saw them catching me i backed off and let them through. It would have only been a matter of time, and i would rather keep my car in good nick. I had a few good laps with Wally and Yokel. I almost caused them both problems at turn 2. I could see i just wasn't braking hard enough, my driving style is more balance/drift the car through corners not point and squirt. So sorry if i caught you out.
The only incident i had was when Doc had a moment, well 2 moments. I was coming over the crest after the sharp left just after the back straight, to see Doc in a cloud of tyre smoke, he was miles away, but i instinctively backed off where i would usually be on the power, and yup the ar5e end came around and i glanced the wall on the inside of the track. Quickly scrolled through the LCD to pit strategy and turned off fix damage.
2nd pitstop was about to happen, the tyres were still feeling good, i was consistently in the low 26's, as i didn't know how long a tyre change was, i took a risk and only fueled up. I changed tyres at my 3rd stop.... wow the car felt much nicer..The race was very consistent from then on, not much happened untill i started trying to plan the end of the race.
So with 30 minutes to go, i was doing quick mental arithmatic with MENTAL being the operative wordI worked out that if i put in 70 litres at the next stop, i could cruise home with no other pit stops.
So there i was cruising around in 3rd, thinking WOW this is way better than i expected, my pit strategy must have been sheer brilianceThen the moment was shattered, i mentioned on vent that i had only fuelled 70ltrs, this was with just over 15 minutes to race, BJ tells me i would need 70 litres to finish the 15 minutes... WTF
Then it dawned on me, i had done the mental arithmatic using 2:25's as the lap time, not 1:25's
I decided for a quick splash and dash next lap, so again trying to figure out how many litres i would need whilst trying to drive proved extremely difficult. I made sure i would have enough fuel and dashed out of the pits now 8 seconds behind Jeff/Crash who were battling with WID/Nineten.
I pushed as hard as i could but could not make any ground on them, so 5th it was. Very happy with that result considering.
Congrats to the podium, well done BJ/Glen awesome race.
Congrats to all other drivers, it was a tough 2+ hours of driving with very few if any problems
Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all. I hope the aliens get Matt home soon, unless he is enjoying the probes..........
Cheers
Steve
